Four World Titles on the Line as Key West Powerboat Championship Opens
KEY WEST, Fla. (November 4, 2026) — The 45th annual Key West World Championship opened Wednesday with a full day of offshore powerboat racing in Key West Harbor, and the sport's top two classes went to Monster Energy boats. Monster Energy / M CON won Class 1. Monster Energy / HURT won Class 2.
Key West's race week is the season finale for offshore powerboat racing, and this year the stakes are higher than ever. For the first time, four classes will decide their world championships in Key West: Class 1, Class 2, Super Cat and Super Stock. Those titles will be settled when Friday's race ends.
In Class 1, Monster Energy / M CON covered nine laps of the 4.5-mile course in 21 minutes and 30.78 seconds. The boat averaged more than 100 mph a lap. On the straightaways, Class 1 boats can top 140 mph. Marine Technology / GC Racing, with Miami throttleman Johnny Tomlinson and owner and driver Willy Cabeza, finished 12 seconds back. Tomlinson is in his 41st season with more than 160 wins. With one Key West race left before the title is decided, unofficial standings show M CON leading the Class 1 world championship by a single point over Club Car Wash/BPR.
Monster Energy / HURT took Class 2 by 16.7 seconds over Lake Wylie Racing. In Super Cat, CR Racing won by nearly 52 seconds, while Dirty Money Racing, the Super Cat points leader coming into Key West, finished sixth. And in Super Stock, the day's largest class with 16 boats, STR / Allied came out on top.
Racing resumes Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. That night at 8, four world champions will be crowned on Duval Street. The final race is Sunday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m., and champions in every class will be honored at the awards banquet at 6 p.m. at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater in Key West.
The best seat in Key West is on the Outer Mole at Truman Waterfront Park, with tickets sold on site and at raceworldoffshore.com.
