Key West’s Cinderella Story Comes with One Giant Red High Heel Shoe
KEY WEST, Fla. (October 5, 2025) — For these drag performers, the prize wasn’t another pair of heels. It was a seat in one very big red shoe.
The first “If the Shoe Fits” national competition brought six finalists to Key West Saturday to compete for the title of Queen of New Year’s Eve.
The search traveled through Dallas, Los Angeles, New York City and Fort Lauderdale before bringing the finalists to Duval Street outside Bourbon Street Pub. Performers who competed around the country came together for one last contest, with Key West’s midnight spotlight at stake.
Mulan Alexander of Dallas won the title. CC Glitzer finished as first runner-up, followed by Key West’s Beatrix Dixie as second runner-up.
Alexander earned the chance to ride inside the oversized red high heel as it is lowered from the New Orleans House balcony on December 31, welcoming 2026 above a crowd on Duval Street.
The national search gave drag performers a new route to a starring role in Key West’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration.
After the contest, Alexander stepped into the shoe and waved to the crowd. The next fitting would come with a countdown.
